A lot of people don't seem to grasp the difference between understanding a topic and endorsing that topic. Which truly baffles me. I was literally just arguing with someone about how reading unsavory primary source materials, in order to better understand and ideology, etc. is totally acceptable, and doesn't involve tacit acceptance or endorsement of any ideas.

I find that it is not ignorance, but cynicism. They don't confuse "is" and "ought". They just think YOU confuse "is" and "ought". They think they're the only one with free will and everyone else is comfortable with the status quo.
