After over a decade out of 'the mafia' i realise that Christians cant come to terms with the fact that we no longer call ourelves Christian. They are terrified for us.[Big LOL]

Everyday battles …. I often wonder if my brain is going to be completely re-wired one day and I don’t have to deal with those doubts.

Can you define “trauma”? The word is so overused that it is hard to know what people mean by it.

Have you ever thought you can follow God aside from “going to church”? You don’t have to completely obliterate all beliefs. Call out to the Creator and let it take you from there. We definitely are dealing with higher powers here. Trusting only yourself of course will lead to doubt. We hardly know anything

It's a journey for sure. I will say that going Catholic (again) after being in the protestant churches for years and then years away from all of it has been a relief. I need to show up once a week for an hour and anything beyond that is gravy. That freed me up in so many ways. Made me want to dive deeper without the obsession that Im not doing enough. And if I have a few months where that's all I can do, no guilt or shame or second guessing. I'm good, and it's so nice to have some faith but relax about it. Best of luck though, you sound like you're doing pretty great.

I deconstructed ten years ago and I will still experience existential dread occasionally, like what if I’m wrong and I actually do spend all eternity in hell? That story isn’t logical, but what if it’s true anyway? I have to just trust my heart.

Definitely been there. It’s such a process to un-brainwash ourselves.

No one warned me that I would know better but old habits would pop up at every corner. I actively create opportunities to create new habits until maybe one day my body/brain doesn’t default to the guilt/shame/doubt that Christianity hardwired into me. But damn. It is no joke and mad frustrating sometimes.

I love your content! I relate so much to your journey. We were always taught to doubt. To just rely on “their” knowledge not our own. It’s a hard shift to rewire ourselves.

You can intellectually arrive at:
“I don’t believe that anymore.”
…and still have some little alarm buried in your brain going:
BUT WHAT IF YOU’RE WRONG

The journey requires you to trade certainty for uncertainty. Trusting yourself was never allowed and takes time, as I’m sure you know 🤗

I am 66 and have not attended church for nearly 20 years. I remain a Christ follower and do align with his teachings (WWJD). I have not had one sleepless night.

You’re so awesome for sharing your truth. A lot of folks who grew up in church feel guilty by leaving the church, but thank you for sharing what it is living life outside of it. Trust your gut!! 💙💙💙

I think you forgot about grace and too much religiosity. I’ve gone through the same thing.
