They boycott the Grammys because the winners are chosen by the Recording Academy voting, not Fan Voting. They know if another Group would win the Asian Category at the Grammys that would stop their "Our favs charted" Argument.

There is definitely a real heavy conversation to be had around The Grammys and prejudices. I felt though that BTS found a way to use that conversation for their own benefit. even if no Asian category was made and if there was no prejudice, i still genuinely think they wouldn't have won just because their latest album really wasnt that good. they can win fan votes and have high streams and sales because their fandom is loyal and dedicated but without bias, the album actually is not anything that should win.

Tyler the creator, when he won his Grammy in 2020, later said it was unfair how they put black artist in the "urban" or "rap" category even if they are bending genres, this is genuinely not something new or never said before

I might get flamed but I remember the 1st round of nominations, someone wrote an article that they didn't win due to racism and only referenced black artists. it would be compelling to write Asian artists...if Olivia wasn't winning that year. a black artist was also winning multiple awards that year. heck they lost to 2 black women. article should've gone a none western artist route but if I add any comments about them, it just boosts their name

and the fact that the categories were introduced after Rosé lost all her nominations for Apt…like bar none of BTS’s songs made nearly as much of an impact on music worldwide as Apt. and if THE APT was not able to receive a Grammy then there was no way BTS would ever win anything. so maybe adding an Asian focused category actually gives them a chance
