imo Mercedes THINKS they want Max but in reality they would not handle someone like Max who ignores team orders, doesn't do the "family" thing they do, and many other things. They want a strong talent like Max, not Max.

max new contract is not just about money. its probably that he gets more control at red bull and more money is just a bonus. max isn't a money guy, doesn't seem like it. he's going to make sure next year's car is competitive. this year might be a red bull flop.

There's also the fact that Toto/Mercedes is known for having very collected, polished PR, so him struggling to find the right words here is all the more noticeable. So I don't blame you for "reading too much into it". It's not like he's hidden how much he wanted Max on his team before.

I think one of the reasons max didnt sign with mercedes is Kimi. I think if he would sign he would want to be more in a senior role to like show him instead of having to compete with him 24/7.

pretty sure he did. but red bull, giving that money and the freedom to do GT races is too good for max I'm sure they put in some clause that if they are not competitive, max will be allowed to participate in other series even if it clashes with F1 weekends
