PARENTS! LISTEN! It definitely wasn’t just the phone. It was the breaking point. Take it from someone who made an attempt at 12 and ended up in the mental hospital. It slowly builds up over time. It takes so much to actually get to the point of wanting it to end. Mine came from school, stress, undiagnosed mental illnesses, parents not taking me seriously, seeing the world around me go downhill, coming out to my parents and my dad ignoring me for 5 days straight because of it, and so much more. It was not just the phone. Also, parents out there! Accepting your child is the best thing to do. When I came out to my mom, I felt so happy that she accepted me, she cried, but accepted me. I felt a weight lifted off my shoulders that I wanted to tell the rest of my family because it felt amazing to be accepted. I was terrified to tell my dad but I did. He ignored me for days after and during those days, I would SH a lot more than I usually did (I’m about 4 years clean!). When I told my grandparents, they were surprised but went back to asked about our relationship. My dad is still in denial but is better with it. I came out in 7th grade but I knew since elementary. Support your kids, ask about their interests, even if you don’t understand it, especially teens feel happy when someone is interested in hearing them talk about someone they are passionate about. For example, I love transformers and I love to explain the lore but my parents think it’s childish
