@foodeatingfun: Armenian Sini Manti (սինի մանտի): Crispy juicy baked beef dumplings! Recipe⬇️⬇️ Adapted from fast&yummy on TikTok, plus some other tips I heard online. Ingredients Dough: ~425g flour 1 tsp salt 4 tbsp oil 200ml warm water Filling 1-2 small onion 2-3 tbsp herbs 3 cloves garlic 1.5 pound ground beef or lamb 1 tsp salt 1 tsp black pepper 1 tsp Aleppo pepper, or a paprika you like Sauce: (note it’s often made with a lot of butter and tomato paste, I used a different less oily version, you can google it if you want that one) oil 3 cloves of finely minced or grated garlic 3-4 tbsp tomato paste 1+ tsp Aleppo pepper Around 2 cups of stock 0.5 tsp salt Pepper 1 cup yogurt (Armenian yogurt is thinner and more sour, I add kefir, buttermilk would work the same) 3 tbsp kefir Salt raw garlic to taste, I used 2 cloves Method: -Mix all dough ingredients into a bowl and knead until it becomes a soft and not sticky dough. Make sure you add flour or water to the point that it is smooth and you can pull it without it looking lumpy. I kneaded for about 7 minutes -Leave dough to rest at room temp for 30 minutes -In the meantime, make the tomato sauce by sautéing the garlic until fragrant, then adding tomato paste and Aleppo pepper and frying until deep red -Pour in the stock until you have a thin broth. Taste for seasoning -Grate a clove of garlic into yogurt and stir. Add salt to taste -In a food processor, pulse the onion, garlic, and herbs until chopped finely. Or just cut them by hand. -Add the meat and spices and combine by hand or in the food processor -thoroughly flour the table and roll out the dough to around 1/8-1/4 inch in thickness. Cut them into a grid of 2x2 squares. I think it’s more traditional to do 1x1 squares -as shown in the video, take small balls of meat and form the manti. Tightly pack each one into a thoroughly greased baking dish -bake at 390F/200C for 20 minutes. Manti should be crisp at this point -Immediately pour the tomato broth over the manti and return to the oven for around 5 minutes until it’s all bubbling -Pour over the yogurt sauce and enjoy this incredible meal #manti #armenia #internationalfood #dumpling

Idk why it’s so hard for ppl to grasp that multiple countries can share a dish due to migration and availability of ingredients.

wild how some people don't grasp the concepts of some foods being regional and not national, the food doesn't get to a border and thing "nah, imma go around" and skip somewhere

Yeah, I’m Turkish but that’s nothing like the Turkish mantı, our one is typically smaller and meat is fully covered

I often see this with Arabs saying Mizrahi Jews “stole” food like hummus and shawarma from them. As if one ethnic group in such a diverse region has a monopoly on a dish

This is why anti-immigration people make no sense. We have always migrated, and we can see traces of that everywhere.

I’m Central Asian, and they’re all just different types of dumplings and I don’t know why people get so stressed about it. Food should unite us and not divide us.

This looks completely different from Turkish mantı too. Most countries that are close to each other have different versions of the same dish, I don’t know why we fight about this all the time, we don’t need to claim everything as our own This is just the Armenian version of a dish we also have in Turkiye.

We also have Manto/Mantu in Saudi Arabia 🇸🇦. Which are dumplings 🥟 cooked by steam. It’s believed that it has Mongolian 🇲🇳 origins, and was spread during Genghis Khan era.

I’ve had very small, crunchy ones at Armenian restaurants before - are they different regional variations?

It’s like over time food crossed borders, as well as those borders changing endlessly over time… so most dishes share and borrow from others
