I wrestle with this all the effing time. I posted a video some months back where I was drawing a contrast between a stained glass window that was literally paid for by Robert E Lee and so like this is his window and he is keeping it, versus here's the empty spacer the Confederate flag used to hang in the sanctuary and I took it down my first day here. Colten it was crazy, I received a literal violent threat of the firearm variety in front of my 18 month old daughter... It wasn't even for removing the flag. That had happened genuinely years beforehand. But the frustration this man seemed to have, which resulted in the threat of extraordinary violence, was that I had had the audacity to make this video and in his mind associating his church with some woke mob where they'd tear down the Confederate flag. And like, I genuinely don't know how I could have arrived in that space and been faithful to my vows and left that flag up. I could just barely live with the Robert E Lee window and I have colleagues who are still suspicious of me for taking the job in the first place. I'm torn between the belief that there must be some kind of balance such that we can introduce people into a different way of living and the belief that Jesus did not give a flying fuck, He just went around pissing everybody off until they finally got Him. I mean they're chasing after Him, they're looking for His life, they're hunting for Him as a baby, they're threatening to throw Him off cliffs. It's not like Good Friday comes around and it's this big surprise, right? Am I unfaithful to that Man and His Mission? Is my desire to soften myself enough to bring people along a betrayal of His commandments? Should the fact that my softening clearly doesn't work because a guy who heard me preach love and forgiveness for three and a half years told me in front of witnesses I should expect pew pew because he'd decided I was woke? I am haunted by these questions.

IMO, he is the bravest person in the military right now, he is willing to give up his literal freedom to uphold his oath to the constitution, & if he is a christian, to uphold what Jesus taught. His leadership, and people of “faith” could learn something from him. And anyone who says the military is supposed to be apolitical should take a look at what the secdef & other military “leadership” is doing & saying.

basically one service member takes the oath seriously and the rest are cowards our freedom depends on cowards but nothing new our military has been mostly cowards since the 1960's

any religion which has mass adoption in modern times CANNOT possibly be a threat to the ruling class. not sure why people don’t see this… if your religion lasted thousands of years and isn’t being hunted down, then obviously it isn’t effective at solving capitalism.
