She was asleep with her black hair spread across the pillow, her lips slightly parted, and one hand tucked beneath her cheek. The sheet barely covered her up to her shoulder. Lisa stayed perfectly still, as if afraid to break the moment. Jennie furrowed her brow slightly and stirred. "Mmm...?" Her voice came out husky. "Nothing," Lisa whispered. "Go back to sleep." But it was too late. Jennie opened one eye and looked at her with a half-smile. "You were watching me again." "No." "Liar. You’ve got that lovestruck look on your face again." Lisa laughed softly and snuggled a little deeper into the pillow. Jennie moved closer until her head rested on Lisa’s shoulder. "How long have you been awake?" "Not long." "Lisa...!" "...Since five." Jennie opened both eyes this time. "Again?" Lisa didn't answer. She just began running her fingers slowly through Jennie’s hair. "I couldn't sleep," she admitted. "Every time I closed my eyes, I felt like I was going to miss this." Jennie fell silent for a moment. Then she propped herself up and looked down at Lisa, her hair falling to one side of her face. "This?" "You. Like this. You look so cute when you're asleep." Jennie let out a soft laugh and sank back down, burying her face in the crook of Lisa’s neck. "You're so sappy." There was a long silence. The only sound was the two of them breathing. "You know what the most unfair part is?" Jennie said suddenly. "That you look ridiculously cute when you sleep, too. And I never tell you because I’m too shy." Lisa blinked. "Really?" "Mmm." "Sometimes you make a little sound... like a kitten. And I just lie here looking at you, thinking about how you’re actually mine." Lisa felt her ears grow warm. She leaned in and planted a slow kiss on Jennie’s forehead, then another on her nose, and finally a soft one on her lips. Jennie made a soft sound against her mouth. "Wake me up next time. I want to see you, too." Lisa gazed at her for a moment, stroking her cheek with the back of her fingers. "Okay," she whispered at last. "I’ll wake you up next time... but only if you let me keep looking at you for a while first." Jennie let out a sleepy laugh and nuzzled into the crook of her neck. "Deal." She settled in more comfortably, tangling her leg with Lisa’s, and within a minute, her breathing had deepened and calmed once more.
