@commonsensegay: Replying to @Lee I saw psychosis in the face. It’s not an excuse. I didn't plan to share this. I was a victim of domestic violence and I thought I was going to die that night. He was bipolar. Misdiagnosed. His meds were off. The same explanations I'm hearing now. I was one of the lucky ones. Those three babies were not. Their last moments were terrifying, and they didn't get a choice. I can hold both. Sympathy for the illness. And justice for the children. I am definitely not excusing what she did, but I have gone through a severe episode myself and I have three kids. I did not want to hurt my kids and I did believe their life would be so much better without me in it. Luckily and unfortunately my son found me half way to death and he saved me. I say unfortunately because he will now have that memory and image for the rest of his life. The worst part is that my youngest child was almost 3 yrs old. So it wasn’t postpartum but just bipolar type 2. Now I start seeing the signs within myself when I feel like it’s coming on and I have to remind myself that I will feel better tomorrow. It’s just a bad day. I’m sorry that you were on the receiving end of someone’s bad day.

Two things can be true… mental health is complicated and we can be empathetic but that doesn’t excuse the most heinous act someone can do.

I’m SO sorry that happened to you. It’s really difficult to explain if you haven’t experienced it. It’s hard to watch people talk about it when they have no idea what they’re talking about. Thank you for speaking up.

Thank you for sharing. I’m sorry you went through that. For me it’s the build up to the events. She knew she wasn’t getting better. She wasn’t honest with her providers. She did insinuate to her mom and husband that she had intrusive thoughts at one point. I can’t remember the exact testimony. I believe Patrick asked if she was currently having them at the time and she denied. She was not receptive to treatment , non med compliant, she didn’t return to women and infants she left McLeans

I am also a survivor of domestic abuse. he was a wolf in sheep's clothing and by the time I realized how bad he was I was in pretty deep. thankfully, I managed to escape and then now married to a wonderful man but you're right this case is way beyond that

Omg, I’m so sorry you had to deal with that. I’ve also dealt with someone who had meantal health issues. They represented an evil that’s hard to describe. At the same time, please don’t try to display what’s going on here as some happenstance with mental illness. I understand the notion but we have to all understand why people actually want to portray these things as some mental issue. It’s not. It’s not in the way we all tend to discuss these things. This woman planned the death of her own children. It’s not mental health that made her do that. It’s not mental health that makes these women support her. It’s a kind of derangement that plays against your core sensibilities so they can easily escape. It’s using the social contract like it’s play thing. It laughs at your want and need for the world to make sense while it proceeds with reckless abandon. You don’t need to be fair. You need to know how to say “no”. You need to live by this every day.
