I never imagined that an ordinary journey from Benin to Lagos would turn into one of the most terrifying experiences of my life. We were travelling along the Benin–Lagos Expressway when we were suddenly kidnapped. There were about 16 of us in the vehicle, including the driver. They took us deep into the bush, far away from the road and everything familiar. We walked for what felt like forever—more than 10 miles into the night. It was dark, exhausting and frightening. At that point, I honestly didn’t know if I would ever see home again. But sometimes, courage comes from the most unexpected places. Four men among us found the courage to run. I ran with them, even though we were exhausted and terrified. We kept going until we eventually reached a small village. I will never forget what I saw when we got there—the farms, the quietness of the village, and the feeling that maybe, just maybe, we had a chance. I was extremely hungry. I saw a pawpaw on the farm and picked it because, at that moment, hunger had taken over everything else. Eventually, some kind-hearted farmers found us and helped us. They gave me the cloth I wore in this video Their kindness became part of the reason I am alive and back home today. Right now, I am home. I am safe. And honestly, I am grateful beyond words. I survived something I never thought I would have to experience. Life is truly fragile. One minute, you are travelling peacefully; the next, you are fighting just to make it back home. I may never forget that night, but I am choosing to be grateful for the courage that came when we needed it most, and for the strangers who helped us find our way to safety. I made it home. 🙏🏽❤️
