@updatenews03: Nepal’s Home Minister Sudan Gurung has said he is deeply saddened and shocked by the jghanya crme against three-year-old Garima Chaudhary, saying the pain is not limited to her family but is a pain for the entire society. In a Facebook statement, Gurung said the government has not remained silent or inactive since the incident. He said the accused were arrested immediately and the investigation is continuing. After serious questions were raised about possible police negligence in the initial stage, an investigation and action process has also been started against the concerned police officials. Addressing the public demand for the death penalty, Gurung said he understands the anger. However, Nepal’s Constitution does not allow laws providing for the death penalty, meaning the government cannot immediately impose such punishment. He also said that Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Sobita Gautam had taken a decision to remove existing legal barriers related to serious cr*mes against women and children. A draft for necessary legal amendments is being prepared to take forward through the parliamentary process. According to Gurung, four additional people have been arrested for investigation based on the complaint filed by Garima’s family. The Home Minister urged people not to politicize the sensitive case or conduct a “media trial” based on unverified information. He said citizens should question the government and demand accountability, but the investigation should also be allowed to continue without interference. Gurung said the immediate priority is justice for Garima. Evidence must be protected, the investigation must be fair and scientific, the guilty must not escape and innocent people must not be punished. He said the government is committed to ensuring the maximum justice allowed by law in the case and to building stronger legal and institutional systems to prevent similar cr*mes in the future. “Let us turn anger into the power of justice. Let us deliver justice to Garima. Let us build a safer Nepal for every daughter.” Source: Home Minister Sudan Gurung’s Facebook statement #garimachoudhary #justiceforgarima #nepalnews #nepalgovernment #breakingnews
