Despite Detroit being a majority-Black city, the plan faced intense backlash and was ultimately blocked. Double Standards in Ethnic Enclaves Dr. Anderson and his supporters heavily criticized the "racist" label as a hypocritical double standard. The Detroit’s Economic Growth Commission and the Land Bank of the State of Michigan were not always forthright. As the price of the land kept going up and the amount of land kept going down, the project made less and less business sense. Dr. Anderson finally terminated the project after the Lamont Title Company informed him that: Neither the city or the state owned the site they were selling, therefore, the company could not issue clear title or provide title insurance.
