i personally think it’s because atsushi got to meet dazai when he was already changing himself to be someone better. he had to treat akutagawa that way so that akutagawa can survive the harsh reality of being inside port mafia. and if being acknowledged by dazai will lead to akutagawa’s character development then i think it’s needed to be done that way.

The reason they were treat so differently is because in the pm you cant make mistakes (I am not defending dazais actions btw) but in the ada you can make small mistakes and Dazai did change but also I think Dazai was putting the way he was being treat by Mori onto Akutagawa
