@drowzyt: #geopolitics #thefirerises #russia #europe #usa Geopolitics: Power, Geography, and the Changing World Order Geopolitics is the study of how geography, power, economics, resources, and political interests shape relations among states. Although international politics is influenced by ideology, culture, and individual leaders, geography remains a fundamental constraint. Countries cannot change their physical location, neighboring states, access to oceans, or natural-resource endowments easily. These realities influence national security, economic development, foreign policy, and the formation of alliances. In the twenty-first century, geopolitics has become increasingly complex as traditional military competition intersects with globalization, technological rivalry, energy security, climate change, and economic interdependence. Historically, geopolitical power was closely associated with control over territory and strategic trade routes. Empires sought ports, fertile land, natural resources, and defensible borders because these provided economic and military advantages. Maritime powers depended on naval strength to protect commerce, while continental powers often focused on securing their borders and controlling neighboring territories. Even today, strategically important locations such as maritime chokepoints, canals, border regions, and major shipping routes remain significant because disruptions in these areas can affect international trade and global security. One of the central features of contemporary geopolitics is competition among major powers. The international system that emerged after the Second World War was strongly influenced by the United States and the Soviet Union. Following the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, the United States became the world’s dominant military and economic power. Since then, however, the distribution of global power has gradually become more complex. China’s economic growth and expanding diplomatic and military influence have made it an increasingly important global actor, while countries such as India, Russia, Japan, and major European states continue to shape regional and international affairs. As a result, debates increasingly focus on whether the world is moving toward a more multipolar system in which several major powers compete and cooperate simultaneously. Economic power has also become a central instrument of geopolitics. Modern states can exert influence without using military force. Trade restrictions, economic sanctions, investment policies, control over critical technologies, and access to financial systems can all serve strategic objectives. At the same time, globalization has created deep economic interdependence. Countries that are political competitors may nevertheless depend heavily on one another for trade, manufacturing, technology, energy, or investment. This creates a paradox: economic connections can discourage conflict by making confrontation expensive, but they can also create vulnerabilities when governments become dependent on foreign suppliers for strategically important goods. Energy and natural resources provide another important geopolitical dimension. Oil and natural gas have influenced international relations for decades, particularly because major reserves are concentrated in specific regions. Governments seek reliable and affordable energy supplies, making pipelines, shipping routes, production centers, and energy partnerships strategically important. The transition toward renewable energy is changing this landscape rather than eliminating resource competition. Technologies such as electric vehicles, batteries, solar panels, and advanced electronics require minerals including lithium, nickel, cobalt, copper, and rare-earth elements. Consequently, access to these resources and control over their processing and supply chains are becoming increasingly important geopolitical concerns.

I think a Russian collapse would look like the Kremlin losing central authority over the distant republics and those Republican becoming essentially fully autonomous, even if they're not recognised by the U.N.

Nato will collapse. The usa will slowly lose its status as global superpower. European nationalism will indeed rise. Russia will become the world's strongest military superpower and China the world's strongest economic superpower.

Russian part fortunately or unfortunately depending on your political views , isn't a country that can dissolve like that easily giving especially fact that it's a nuclear power and it's scarces after fall of Soviet union, it's very doubtly that it will make it collapse knowing that people in there believe that war in Ukraine is a "defense against nato" as they call it there. And there are radicals in Russian government that won't just let it slide without nuclear collapse.
