Everyone advocating for the death penalty is missing the fundamental contradiction: why should we punish a murderer by MURDERING them!? Wouldn’t that make us MURDERERS too!? If murder is wrong, it doesn’t magically become right because the state is the one carrying it out. And even if the victim is a 3-year-old child and the person responsible is 16 years old, we still cannot justify killing them. The crime can be horrific beyond words, but our response to a horrific killing should not be another killing. A child’s life deserves justice, not REVENGE disguised as justice. If we condemn murder, we cannot make an exception simply because we believe the person “deserves” to die. Otherwise, we are not rejecting murder; we are deciding which murders are acceptable.
