mine does the same when she purrs a lot too, shes just drooling and trying to gulp it down in the most nonchalant way ever 😂 sometimes she chokes on it and starts wheezing coughing 😭

Cats can do this with kidney failure. With kidney failure, they may become nauseous and try to swallow it down. However, it could also be an inflammation of a tooth or gum. This causes saliva, which they then swallow. But it looks more like nausea. Another possibility is that if your cat has recently had surgery and had a tube in its throat, it might still be a bit sensitive. But if your cat has never done this before, I would definitely go to the vet.

My boy used to do this and he has asthma. Since hes been on his inhaler, hes never done it once. Check with the vet

Purring too much and producing saliva so has to swallow. We’ve had multiple cats doing that, just means they’re having a real good time with you 🥰 If you are concerned though, definitely ask a vet as it never hurts to be safe rather than sorry 🤗

is she drooling while she purrs? I had an old man cat that used to do this and swallow a lot because he drooled when he purred 😂and she sounds pretty purry

Bat Joro :
@Bat Joro: Vet here. There is a good chance she is swallowing some secretions as there is also a slight noice coming from her nose. Check if her nose is stuffed, might be some chronic rhinitis or upper airways chronic inflammation. If this is the case, she may need a doc visit. With this being said, it’s just a video based guess, cause we all know we can’t give solid advice without a proper exam.

if shes done it her entire life and its nothing new I eouldnt worry, but just as an fyi, my cat did this exact move on and off for a couple of days before coughing up blood. the vet werent able to figure out the cause with 100% certainty, but most likely shed gotten a piece of grass stuck in her nose/throat, which disloged itsself when she coughed the blood. she got some pain meds and meds to help heal her mucus membranes, and is totally fine now! (scariest day of my life tho, having to rush her to the vet at 4AM and wait for answers...) but that move might be a warning sign somethings not quite right if its not typical for your specific cat

One of mine does this when she’s purring and there’s a hairball pending! Then the other one had zero teeth, so she did this a lot more to stop herself from drooling 🤣 in some cases it can be thyroid issues and other things, so it’s worth getting checked if it worries you, but it’s probably fine ❤️

You’re cats probably just irritated like smth bothering its throat ear etc, it’s usually a problem if it persists and your cat presents other problems

Ariana does this a lot then monthly she’ll give us a big present of hairball or vomit somewhere, changed her to kitten food so it digests better and it’s been better. Hopefully Shuna is okay ☹️

My cat does it a lot after eating (she eats very quickly cause she loves her food) or when she’s eating grass from the garden, i always interpreted those as little gags, they’re not armful, my cats are healthy and thriving
