Targeting hypertrophy? Concerned about fatigue? Then definitely DON'T do this. This method is for conditioning as well as developing total body work capacity (your gas tank) and mental toughness (I did this at the end of a 24 hour fast). This is Drop Set Interval Stepping. It obviously requires some special equipment. I'm using a low Step riser with a 45 lb bumper plate underneath it to support it from below so it doesn't break. I've got a pair of 125 lb dumbbells, a pair of 20 lb KettleClamps (not sold anymore, unfortunately), an 85 lb weight vest and 40 lbs of auto tow chains around my neck. This is 415 lbs total on the first couple of intervals...very slow intervals... I actually didn't really keep track of how long I was doing the stepping for on each interval. I basically kept going until I felt I had to stop or I would be pushing too hard to continue the intervals. Then just took a short rest until I felt recovered enough to stand up again and keep going. So not super scientific...just Swedish stubbornness :). After 2 intervals, I dropped the chains, bringing the load down to 375 lbs. After a few more intervals (always keeping the sets even between which leg I stepped up with first), I dropped the weight vest, bringing the load down to 290 lbs. Kept going a few more intervals then took the handles off, bringing the weight down to 250 lbs (just the dumbbells). I did use grip assistance in the form of lifting hooks as well (easier to use than straps). By the time I hit the last interval, 250 lbs was moving at about the same speed as 415 lbs did at the start. If you have a few pieces of equipment that you can load onto yourself like this, it's a great way to train work capacity. --- Got a lagging muscle group and want to bring it up fast? This will do it... Link in bio #metcon #loadedcarry #farmerscarry #strongman #crossfit
