I used to treat God like a genie in a bottle. Rub the lamp, make a wish, and wait for heaven to deliver. Or maybe He was Santa Claus, rewarding me when I made the nice list. Prayer became an intercom button: God, could You fix this turbulence? Make me comfortable? Tell me how much longer? I wanted the destination without the discipline. The harvest without planting. The resurrection without the cross. And I wonder how many of us have confused following Jesus with expecting Jesus to follow our plans. We’ve taken a Savior who washed feet, loved enemies, welcomed outcasts, and willingly endured a cross, and reduced Him to someone whose job is to make our lives easier. But what happens when the door stays closed? When healing doesn’t come? When the person you prayed would stay is gone? Is God still good? I believe He is. Not because everything that happens is good. Some things are cruel, unjust, and heartbreaking. And telling someone who’s grieving that “everything happens for a reason” can turn their pain into a lesson they never asked to learn. God’s goodness doesn’t mean we escape suffering. Jesus Himself wept, was betrayed, and suffered. His love wasn’t proven by avoiding pain, but by entering into ours. Maybe faith isn’t the certainty that God will give us what we want. Maybe it’s learning to trust His character even when we don’t understand our circumstances. And maybe our stories aren’t only for us. Not because tragedy was necessary, but because the compassion born from surviving it might help another person make it through their darkest night. What nearly broke you may one day help you sit beside someone who is breaking. I used to ask God, “What can You do for me?” Now I’m learning to ask, “Who can I become through knowing You, and who can I love because of it?” So here’s the question that challenges me most: If Jesus never gave you another thing you asked for, would who He already is still be enough? #FaithOverComfort #FollowJesus #RadicalMovement
