From the Parliament and Buda Castle to the city's famous bridges and historic streets, the architectural identity of Budapest was already firmly in place.❤️🇭🇺 What stands out most when comparing the photographs is not necessarily how much the landmarks themselves have changed, but everything around them. The vehicles on the streets, public transport, shop signs, street details, and especially the decorative lighting give the city a distinctly different appearance. ✨🚋 Some of the buildings were also undergoing reconstruction or restoration at the time, showing that preserving Budapest's architectural heritage has been an ongoing process for generations. And yet, despite all these differences, the Budapest charm is still unmistakable.❤ The same grand architecture, the Danube, the historic streets, and the familiar city views connect these photographs from the 1980s with the Budapest of today. 😍🙌🏽 Decades later, the city has changed in countless ways, but its most recognisable landmarks continue to tell the same story, just with a very different backdrop. 📸✨ Photos from recent years are made by me, while old photos are sourced from fortepan's website archives. #budapest #budapesthistory #budapestthenandnow #budapesthungary #budapestretro
