Since this post wants to be slick it depends it wasn’t specific on your average mph based on the time you drive or the average based on miles you drive yes by time it’s impossible because if you travel at 90mph on the way home then you cut the time driven home by more then half (example 30 mile trip at 30mph is an hour and the trip back at 90mph is 20 minutes thus not equaling an average of 60 mph according to the time driven “ but according to distance driving it is 90mph because 30 miles at 30 mph and 30 miles at 90mph still averages 60 mph per mile

maybe we should practice critical thinking instead of using AI. the distance wasn't specified. you can drive to work 1 mile away at 30mph. in order to return home, 1 mile away, with the goal of averaging 60mph round-trip, you would need to drive 90mph.

This question does not specify distance, nor, more umportantly, does it specify if it is equidistant to and from work. if it is the same distance both ways, yes, it is impossible. However, if it is 10 miles to work, but the route home is 20 miles, then if you drove 120mph, you'd average 60mph over the 30 miles you drove. Another poorly worded "riddle."

It’s impossible. You would need to drive home at an infinitely fast speed to average 60 mph for the entire round trip. If the trip to work takes one hour at 30 mph, you’ve already used the entire hour that a 60 mph average would allow for the whole trip. So no matter how fast you drive home, the round-trip average will always be less than 60 mph.

One normally calculates average speed using formula overall average = 2x S1xS2/(S1+S2)…( or you can also work it out yourself on basic principle of average = total distance traveled/total time taken for both legs of journey). 60= 2x30 xS2/(30+S2)… it quickly shows that S2 can only be zero… which indicates formula has failed. This is because the first leg speed of 30 MPH is way too slow so no matter how fast you travel on returns journey, you don’t have enough time to make an overall average of 60MPH. I tried twice using different approaches and couldn’t quite comprehend why I can’t get an answer before I realised this is a trick question.

guys this is not a poorly written riddle the distance to and from work is obviously the same distance and lets say its 30 miles to get there that takes 1 hour and if you want 60mph on average the way back would obviously need to take 0 time so its impossible

There isn't an average available the question itself hasn't got enough information in order to calculate an average speed also the variables involved make the question unequatable. so intelligent is creating an equation that is workable not a question that is vaguer than separating mist in dog.😎😇🤔
