Throughout the entire ride to the hospital, Yoonchae’s mind went utterly blank, consumed by an overwhelming wave of terror. Upon arriving at the hospital, Megan was immediately wheeled into the emergency room. Yoonchae was forced to wait outside in the hallway. The cold hospital corridor felt incredibly eerie and terrifying to her. Her heart was pounding against her chest, her hands shook violently, and she kept praying desperately in her heart for her best friend to survive. After what felt like an agonizing eternity, the ER doors finally swung open. A doctor walked out, looking exhausted and disheartened. The doctor looked at Yoonchae, who was standing all by herself. "Hey, kid..." Yoonchae panicked instantly, taking a sharp step forward. "H-how is Megan, Doctor?! Is she going to be okay?!" The doctor let out a heavy sigh, looking at Yoonchae with deep regret. "After examining her, Megan has suffered extremely severe burns across her body. We tried everything we possibly could to save her... But, I am so sorry... Megan didn't make it." THUD. Yoonchae’s world instantly shattered. Her heart felt like it stopped beating. "WHAT?! ARE YOU KIDDING ME, DOCTOR?!" Yoonchae screamed, completely refusing to accept the harsh reality. Ignoring the medical staff, Yoonchae burst straight into the room. She broke down in tears the second she saw Megan’s body lying motionless on the bed. "MEGAN!!!" Yoonchae screamed hysterically. She sprinted to the side of the bed, grabbing Megan's cold hand and holding it tight. Tears streamed down her face, soaking the back of her best friend's hand. "MEGAN... I DON'T BELIEVE THIS, MEGAN!!" Yoonchae shook Megan’s hand desperately. "MEGAN, WAKE UP!! DON'T LEAVE ME!!" And suddenly... an absolute miracle happened. Right after their hands connected and Yoonchae’s cries filled the room, the heart monitor suddenly beeped. Megan’s chest rose and fell abruptly. She was breathing again—though her breaths sounded extremely weak, heavy, and strained. "Yoon... chae..." a faint, raspy voice escaped Megan’s pale lips. She was forcing herself to speak. Yoonchae’s eyes widened in pure shock, her tragic tears instantly turning into a gasp of disbelief. "MEGAN?! YOU'RE AWAKE?!" Slowly, Megan’s eyelids fluttered open just a fraction. "Yoonchae?.." she whispered weakly. "I-is that you?.." "YES, MEGAN! IT'S ME!! YOU CAN HOLD ON, RIGHT?!" Yoonchae cried out, squeezing Megan’s hand tighter, refusing to let go of this miraculous moment. Seeing the patient’s pulse miraculously return, the doctor and nurses immediately sprang into action. The doctor quickly took over to continue the intensive treatment. A nurse gently guided Yoonchae back toward the door for the medical procedure. "Please wait outside for a moment! The doctor needs to examine her condition again!" "HUHU.. MEGAN!!"
