I had the nurse in charge announce that it was my birthday over the loud speaker to our entire ED (at that point in time it was the busiest ED in Australia) One of the lovely mental health patients made a point of finding out who I was and then followed me around the department for my entire shift singing happy birthday to me. I have never worked in my birthday since then

My first year as an ICU nurse, I spent my birthday doing an MTP on a pt with an abdo bleed. I was hand pumping bag after bag and one of them was either faulty or spiked badly and exploded all over me. That was many years ago now, the pt lived, all was well, but I never worked another birthday again ๐

Iโve only worked my birthday twice, and both times someone died (a patient, not just random people). So now I take annual leave every year. The weird is someone still dies every year on my birthday, but at least I donโt have to do the VOED!

I did the same yesterday on my birthday signed out a breathalyser from the nurses desk and put 21/08/1992 haha obviously realised straight away and changed it ๐คฃ
