Lena sat behind her enormous desk in her private office, surrounded by documents and reports. The woman who had been smiling at Miu that morning was nowhere to be seen. Here, she was the Lena Schuett everyone knew. Cold. Focused. Intimidating. Her friends Oom, Lingling, Faye, and Tan were sitting across from her, discussing an upcoming business project. “Everything is ready for the meeting with the Singapore investors,” Faye said. Lena nodded without looking up. “Good. Make sure the contracts are reviewed before they arrive.” Tan nodded. “Already done.” Lena’s phone suddenly buzzed on her desk. She glanced at the screen. A message from Miu. Miu: I got home safely. And I’m still thinking about our date. Lena stared at the message. For a moment, her normally serious expression disappeared. The corners of her lips slowly lifted into a genuine smile. She typed a reply. Lena: Good. I’ll make sure it’s worth looking forward to. Another message appeared almost immediately. Miu: Now you’re making me even more curious. Lena: l’ll contact you about our dinner Lena smiled again. She didn’t notice the four people sitting across from her staring at her. Lingling slowly looked at Oom. “Is she… smiling?” Oom whispered, “I think so.” Faye leaned forward. “Who is texting her?” Tan looked completely shocked. “I’ve worked with Lena for years. I’ve never seen her smile at her phone like that.” Lena finally looked up. All four immediately straightened. “What?” Nobody answered. Lena narrowed her eyes. “Why are you all staring at me?” Faye tried to remain serious. “Nothing.” Lena looked suspicious. “Continue the meeting.” They nodded. But Lingling couldn’t resist. “Who is she?” Lena’s eyes immediately sharpened. “Who?” “The person making you smile.” Silence filled the office. Lena slowly placed her phone face down on the desk. “There is no one.” Oom raised an eyebrow. “Really?” “Really.” Tan smiled. “You smiled twice.” Lena stared at him. “Did you count?” “Yes.” Faye laughed. “You’re hiding something.” Lena leaned back in her chair. “I’m not hiding anything.” Lingling grinned. “Then why are you suddenly in such a good mood?” Lena remained silent for a moment. Then her phone buzzed again. She glanced down. Another message from Miu. Miu: Don’t work too hard, scary CEO. Remember you promised me a date. Lena’s lips curved into another smile. Her friends immediately noticed. Oom pointed at her. “There! Again!” Lena looked up. “Meeting over.” Everyone burst out laughing. Faye stood up. “Okay, okay. We’ll leave you and your mysterious girlfriend alone.” Lena’s expression instantly became serious. “She’s not my girlfriend.” Lingling smiled knowingly. “Not yet.” Lena didn’t answer. But the tiny smile that returned to her face said enough. It was late when Lena finally arrived home. She loosened her tie, placed her keys on the counter, and let out a quiet sigh. The apartment was silent. She had barely taken a few steps when her phone buzzed. Miu: Are you home? Lena smiled immediately. Lena: Just got home. A few seconds later— Miu: Good. I was waiting for you. Lena paused. Lena: Waiting for me? Miu: Maybe. Lena sat down on the sofa. Lena: Shouldn’t you be sleeping? Miu: I tried. Then I remembered we have a date. Lena smiled. Lena: You really are excited about this date. Miu: Very. Lena: Friday? Miu: Friday. Lena: I’ll make the reservation. Miu: Where are you taking me? Lena: That’s a secret. Miu: Lena! Lena: You said you wanted a surprise. Miu: I changed my mind. Lena laughed quietly. Lena: Too late. Miu: At least tell me what to wear. Lena: Something you feel beautiful in. Miu stared at the message for several seconds before replying. Miu: You’re making me blush again. Lena: Good. Miu: You’re becoming quite confident. Lena: You bring it out of me. Miu smiled at her phone. The conversation continued. They talked about the restaurant. Then music. Then their favorite foods. Then childhood memories. Then the places they wanted to travel. Miu asked Lena questions about her businesses, and Lena surprisingly answered instead of changing the subject.
