The producer gave them a thumbs-up. “That’s it. We’re off.” The moment the camera light disappeared, Emi’s serious expression vanished. She turned toward Bonnie. “Bonnie.” “What?” “I’m tired.” “You were sitting the whole time.” “Emotionally tired.” Bonnie laughed. “Drama queen.” Emi reached for her hand. “Come here.” Bonnie looked around the room. “Emi, we’re still in the office.” “The camera is off.” “That doesn’t mean we’re alone.” Emi ignored her warning and rested her head on Bonnie’s shoulder. “Just five minutes.” Bonnie sighed, but she didn’t move away. Instead, she gently ran her fingers through Emi’s hair. “Happy now?” “Very.” “You’re such a baby.” Emi smiled against her shoulder. “Only when I’m with you.” Bonnie’s cheeks turned pink. “You were not this clingy on camera.” “Because people were watching.” “So you’re pretending we’re not together?” Emi lifted her head. “I’m not pretending anything.” She gave Bonnie a small smile. “I just don’t want everyone knowing how spoiled I am by my girlfriend.” Bonnie stared at her. “Girlfriend?” Emi blinked. “Did I say that out loud?” Before Bonnie could answer, the office door suddenly opened. Their co-worker froze. Emi was leaning against Bonnie, holding her hand. Bonnie immediately pulled away. The co-worker slowly smiled. “Oh.” Emi sat straight. “It’s not what it looks like.” “Really?” “Yes.” Bonnie nodded. “Definitely.” The co-worker crossed her arms. “Then why was Emi practically sleeping on Bonnie’s shoulder?” “Stress,” Emi answered quickly. “And the hand-holding?” “Teamwork.” Bonnie covered her face. The co-worker burst out laughing. “Right. Very professional teamwork.” She walked away, already reaching for her phone. Bonnie looked at Emi. “You know the rumors are going to get worse.” Emi shrugged. “Let them.” “Seriously?” Emi reached for her hand again. “They can think whatever they want.” She smiled. “As long as I can still call you baby when we’re alone.” Bonnie tried to hide her smile. “You’re really shameless.” “And you’re still holding my hand.” Bonnie looked down. She was. She squeezed Emi’s fingers. “Fine. Five more minutes.” Emi immediately rested her head on her shoulder again. “Best co-worker ever.” Bonnie laughed. “Don’t push it.” Outside the room, their co-workers were already whispering. Inside, the two supposed “just co-workers” were quietly enjoying their little secret.
