Tupac Shakur's childhood friend Malcolm
Tupac Shakur's childhood friend Malcolm "EDI Mean" Greenidge, a founding member of Outlawz who was in a nearby car when he was shot, testified in Duane "Keffe D" Davis' trial in Las Vegas on Tuesday (August 25, day 7). Greenidge said Shakur "was a childhood friend, a family member, big brother, mentor. The list goes on and on." "I had a dream to be a rapper. Mr. Shakur saw something in me, and he agreed to, you know, help me make that dream come true. So I was in a group called Outlawz," he said. Regarding the Sept. 7, 1996, shooting, Greenidge said he was in a Lexus stopped at a light and "Mr. Shakur and Suge Knight was talking to some young ladies." "We couldn't hear what they was talking about. When those young ladies pulled off, another car pulled up and started shooting at Mr. Shakur and Mr. Knight," Greenidge said. He said the shots "came from inside the vehicle." "And was it from the front or back seat?" asked Binu Palal, a deputy district attorney in Clark County, Nevada. "It was from the back seat," Greenidge answered. "And did you did you see the arm or the gun or anything like that?" Palal asked. "The arm and the gun attached to that arm," Greenidge answered. "And were you able to make an assessment of whether the person whose arm was out was white, Asian, Hispanic, or African American?" Palal asked. "In terms of my vantage point, they appeared to be African American," Greenidge answered. Greenidge's fellow Outlawz members Yafeu Fula and Katari Cox were in the Lexus with him, as was Shakur's security guard Frank Alexander. "What do you guys do in the immediate aftermath of the shooting?" Palal asked. "We started to get out of the car to go check on Tupac, and yeah, that's what we did," Greenidge answered. "When we approached the car, Mr. Shakur said to me, 'Get on the ground. They're going to shoot you.' And when I turned around, there was a shotgun in my face," he said. "And who who was holding the shotgun?" Palal asked. "A police officer," Greenidge answered. "So what do you do?" Palal asked. "I got on the ground," Greenidge answered. Prosecutors rested their case against Davis on Wednesday. His lawyer will call witnesses on Thursday (August 27, day 9). #law #crime #hiphop
