He was discussing PPP - very rare vs PPD . One in the literature review is shortly after birth due to intense hormonal changes and usually resolves after 6 weeks. I hope that helps.

He was quoting the DSM V which is the most recent version of the diagnostic bible. It wasn’t even his opinion …

His testimony worked against the prosecution by showing how women’s mental health is belittled.

The whole country got a front row seat for how women are treated in a healthcare system designed for men

When he stated 4 weeks he was going by what the DSM V states, not personal opinion.

PPD is literally depression within the postpartum period. Now... what he said was that the physiological changes that can lead to postpartum PSYCHOSIS are due to changes within the the body that occur within the first 4 weeks of giving birth. Comprehension is key. Now evidence does indicate that psychosis can continue on beyond that point, but Lindsay had zero symptoms til September.

As much as you guys don’t like him, that man is an expert witness in forensic psychiatry and frankly a genius in his field. He was hired to get on the stand and state the facts, and according to the DSM5 he did just that.

So we can all play doctors when defending a woman that killed her children but we can’t have an opinion on the vaccine?

That’s great, but as a psychiatrist, he doesn’t diagnose through the what ACOG wants, the only psychiatric diagnoses in the US come from the DSM.

Not addressing the postpartum issue because we know his BS about that was BS, but by the time he said a tear was called an episiotomy, I was so done with him that I yelled at the TV. I have birth records with tearing in both of my children (not bad tearing though, so my experience would have been much less unpleasant than many other women & I don’t discount that), but even with notes of the tearing, not one place in my records does it say I had an episiotomy. ‘Repairs’ of tears with one child (the other so minor it didn’t require anything, yes. Episiotomy, no!

That man should not be in charge of evaluation any woman in a mental health crisis. The prosecution should be embarrassed for bringing him on the stand.

I had an episiotomy. Before she cut me with scissors, she used her finger NAIL to try to rip me more. And then she took scissors to me because she “didn’t believe in c section.” I got 223 stitches, 3 layers. I was 16.

He’s not a medical doctor. Psych doctors don’t manage patients medically so not surprised he’s not 100% on things like episiotomy’s

Also- episiotomies are usually done when the start of a “natural” tear begins. That’s how I understood his response. The fact that this is the one thing people are stuck on shows that Mack was definitely on top of that exchange

I believe the defense team and the prosecution, she did it. The rest is the juries problem. Both sides have failed. I guess the jury will have to make a judgement on the DSM 5 standard.

The state of MA health care guidelines lists postpartum as the 12 months following BIRTH!! And he’s not even licensed in the state of MA so how was he allowed to evaluate her??
