@theelizabethestate: What is Impressionism, and why do so many people love it? Impressionism began in France in the late 1800s when a group of artists decided to paint the world differently. Instead of perfect details and historical scenes, they painted everyday life, changing light, and simple moments like gardens, rivers, and people walking through the city. The artists worked quickly with visible brushstrokes and bright colors to capture an “impression” of a moment rather than every tiny detail. Up close, the paintings can look loose and unfinished. Step back, and the scene comes to life. At first, many critics hated Impressionism. They thought it looked messy and incomplete. But people eventually fell in love with it because the paintings felt fresh, alive, and full of movement. More than 150 years later, Impressionism remains one of the most loved art movements. Maybe it’s the use of color, the ability to capture light, or because it reminds us to slow down and notice the beauty in ordinary moments.
