at will employment is only for certain situations. ie: union jobs and contract jobs. this doesn't mean they can terminate you for any reason. it has to be a justified reason and not an illegal termination like discrimination. justified reasons are tardiness, not meeting quotas, causing documented problems, etc. they all need to be documented by the companies policy and every employee needs to be aware of the written policy upon hiring.

Those in a right to work state know the loophole companies use, it don’t matter if they retaliate or if it’s unlawful, all they have to legally say is “it didn’t work out “and they’re 100% safe, it’s happened to me
