the more i actually think about consciousness the more insane it becomes because like technically we’re just physical matter following the laws of physics, right? billions of neurons constantly firing, electrical signals moving around, chemicals being released, information getting processed etc and somehow out of all of that there’s suddenly a “me” experiencing it all 😭 like none of the individual neurons are conscious by themselves, they don’t know that they’re part of a person, they’re just cells doing what cells do, but somehow when you put enough of them together you get this subjective experience where there’s literally a person sitting inside the system thinking “i exist” and then the system can turn around and study itself which is probably the weirdest part. like my brain is trying to understand my brain using the exact same brain that it’s trying to understand. and we don’t even experience reality directly either, which makes it even crazier, because everything i see and hear is basically information being converted into electrical signals and then my brain constructing some kind of internal model of what the world is supposed to be, so technically the version of reality i’m experiencing is a biological interpretation of reality, not reality itself. photons hit my eyes, vibrations hit my ears, molecules interact with receptors and somehow my brain turns all of those completely unconscious physical processes into the experience of seeing a sunset, hearing music, feeling pain, remembering someone, being scared, being in love, whatever. and then there’s the fact that this tiny biological structure can somehow think about things that are ridiculously bigger or more abstract than itself. like we evolved to survive on one planet and yet somehow we can conceptualize galaxies billions of light years away, the beginning of the universe, black holes, quantum mechanics, infinity, higher dimensions, time itself, and even the possibility that reality could have completely different structures that we could never perceive. that’s fucking insane when you really sit with it. and then consciousness itself is still such a huge unanswered question because sure

People living on autopilot and not observing and questioning our consciousness or any other processes is genuinely baffling to me. We are matter arranged to THINK. The concept of the mind and consciousness is something I've always had issues with and it makes me experience an existential crisis and also a happiness that such little chance came together to form us. This life is absurd, live it how you want. It is SO short. I am saying this, but it's difficult even for me to put this in practice. But as I age more, the more I realise that one day I will die. And I can't quite put my mind on that.

conciousness is not an illusion nor is matter fundemental, the deeper you go down below quarks and such reality essentially is informational and at that point reality is purely mental states or abstractions posing as material
