When you first started praying in the spirit, what was that like? Did you feel or have a knowing that you could? Did you pray and ask to speak in tongues and then just tried to speak? Whenever I have tried I can’t tell if I’m actually speaking in the spirit. I believe others can, I have a feeling some people are pretending, I don’t want to offend God by pretending to speak in tongues. I’m wondering if some people receive the gift to speak in tongues and some people do not?

I struggle with this so much. I’ve prayed for the gift of tongues, I hear it in my head and I dream of speaking it but I just can’t seem to get it to come out. Is this something that requires someone else to lay hands on you to receive? My walk so far has been very isolated and I know the reasons why God has wanted me to Himself for a while but this is the only thing I can think of that might be holding me back.
