That's shocking. I am in a housing association and my rent is astronomical- I am a single mum, I work and I know that if my rent was subsidises- meaning if I had a council property, I would not need to claim UC to pay my rent. I am working hard to save for a deposit to buy a small home up north- get away from London- sick of this place.

As a Brit who moved to Canada there were a lot of hoops to go through and we had to be able to support the family financially until we found work. We never claimed benefits or expected to get housing here.

lack of housing is mainly cause by planning dept , I have seen land that is only ancient woodland on paper the person want to built affordable housing but he find out that development doesn't decide by planning officers but rather by their family and their mates specially when they brag about it when drunk in pub
