I only went in planning to grab a couple of things, but then I saw the Halloween section. One cute decoration turned into another, and before I knew it, my regular shopping cart had basically become a full Halloween cart. 😂 The worst part was seeing the total at checkout. I had a number in mind when I walked in, and somehow I ended up spending way more than I planned. While I was heading toward the parking lot, I ran into an old school friend who works in marketing for a company that supplies seasonal products. We started catching up, and when he saw all my bags, he laughed. I told him how easily I got carried away, and he gave me some advice that actually made a lot of sense. He said seasonal displays are designed to make everything feel exciting and make you want to add things to your cart right away. His advice was to pause before buying and ask myself whether I actually wanted the item or just felt like I needed it because I had just seen it. Then, before we finished talking, he mentioned one more thing seasonal shoppers often overlook. I had honestly never thought to check it before, so I decided to try it on my next trip. And he was right. The next time I went shopping, I still found plenty of Halloween things I loved, but I was much more intentional about what I bought. I also ended up spending noticeably less than I had the first time.
