@abc7ny: A stunning sight off the coast of Jones Beach! A manta ray was spotted feeding in the water off Long Island. Oceanic manta rays are typically found in tropical and subtropical waters, but experts say they can occasionally make an appearance in our area during the summer months.
New York City saw a dolphin, a whale and now this. At this point, the animals are just telling us that we are now tropical during our summer month.

the water quality in the area is DRASTICALLY better than it has been over the last 100yrs. I know ppl are saying we probably just didn't know they were there, but to see whales breeching just a mile or two away from NYC waters in the harbor is something that wasn't happening before. the NYC waterways are finally healing & the wildlife is returning

Not so Fun fact: the Oceans are warming due to climate change and is changing all sorts of historically unavailable habitats, for the good and bad

Are you sure that’s Jones Beach in New York? The water over here doesn’t look that clear.

This is probably been happening for hundreds of years, but now that we have technology like drones and everybody has a camera on their phone we were able to see what’s going on now

Scientists have claimed NY to be a subtropical state for the past 5 years. Our weather is changing so fast, we’re not keeping up.

New York has been reclassified as a sub tropical climate now. Prepare to have more sea life. Also “manta ray in it’s natural habitat, breaking news” 🤣💖
