If I’m comparing Joe Louis and Ali, I’m taking Ali. Louis was great, but he was stiff, upright and didn’t have Ali’s movement or speed. His era also had less depth at heavyweight. Louis had 25 title defenses, but I don’t see him beating Frazier, Foreman or Norton. Ali beat all three. Not disrespecting Louis, just comparing them — Ali’s better imo.
