@expose.news7: 🚨AOT Inspects Thai Illegal Deployment of Shipping Containers on Cambodian Territory According to the Cambodian Ministry of National Defense, on August 22, 2026, the Cambodian Liaison Group (CLG) coordinated a field visit for the ASEAN Observer Team in Cambodia (AOT-KH), led by the Head of Mission (HOM) from the Philippines, to observe, verify, and report on the situation along the Cambodia–Thailand border. During the visit, the AOT-KH inspected the alleged illegal deployment of shipping containers by the Thai military. According to Cambodian authorities, Thai armed forces placed 10 shipping containers at five locations in Prey Chan Village, O'Bei Choan Commune, O'Chrov District, Banteay Meanchey Province. Cambodian authorities stated that these actions have prevented 1,435 Cambodian civilians from 404 families, including 414 children, from returning to their homes since the renewed peace agreement was signed on December 27, 2025. The Ministry emphasized the need for the Cambodia–Thailand Joint Boundary Commission (JBC) to begin border demarcation work as soon as possible and to adhere to existing agreements, particularly Point 4 of the Joint Statement from the 3rd Special Meeting of the Cambodia–Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) on December 27, 2025. The provision aims to ensure that citizens can return to their homes safely, peacefully, and with dignity, without obstruction. Cambodia maintains a firm position on protecting the Cambodia–Thailand international border as established by the Indochina–Siam Boundary Commission. It emphasizes respect for the principles of international law, including the principle of uti possidetis juris, as well as the Franco–Siamese Conventions and Treaties, official maps, and the procès-verbaux of the commissions responsible for the delimitation and demarcation of the boundary between Indochina and Siam. Cambodia further stated that it does not recognize any alteration of the international border resulting from the use of force or unilateral territorial claims. According to Cambodian authorities, since the renewed peace agreement, Thai armed forces have continued to carry out activities along the shared border that Cambodia considers provocative. Cambodia alleges that these actions involve encroachment upon and occupation of areas that it considers part of its territory, in violation of existing agreements and Cambodia's territorial integrity and sovereignty. From July 26 to August 17, 2026, in Sangkat O Smach, Krong Samraong, Oddar Meanchey Province, Thai armed forces allegedly cleared forest areas to construct a new road running from north of Boundary Pillar No. 14 toward Ta Thong Mountain, also known as Hill 278. According to the Ministry, on August 20, 2026, Thai forces continued the road construction and began constructing new military bunkers in the area. Earlier, on August 10, 2026, the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation issued a statement concerning the alleged construction of new military bunkers and encroachment upon Cambodian territory near the Thmor Da International Border Checkpoint in Thmor Da Commune, Veal Veng District, Pursat Province. Cambodia reiterated that it does not recognize any modification of the international border through the use of force or unilateral territorial claims. It further stressed that such actions cannot prejudice the legitimate rights or legal position of the Kingdom of Cambodia regarding its international boundaries. Moreover, Cambodian authorities alleged that Thai authorities and citizens have constructed roads and other infrastructure and installed barbed-wire fences that prevent local villagers from accessing their homes. Cambodia also alleged that Thai authorities have carried out activities at Khmer temples, including installing Buddha statues, constructing roads, and organizing public events in areas that Cambodia considers part of its territory, despite Cambodia's protests.
