You ABSOLUTELY should address this before the trip so she knows to bring an outfit and get ready. “Hey Susie! I wanted to let you know that I’ve hired a photographer to take some family photos on the trip! We will be taking some of just the family to start, but I would really love for you to join us for some as well so please be sure to pack an outfit in these colors (there’s always a color scheme), so glad you are joining us!”. Make sure to do the family first, so you are adding her to the pictures instead of kicking her out for the family only pics.

Talk with photographer, have them handle it. A good photographer will do it with tact. And someone said do holiday family pics first, then invite her into one for the vacay. Maybe the gf won’t even want to be in the photos

Simple, stage the photo shoot as a timeline: mom dad, then add each child in order, then add spouses, repeat through whole family until the new Girlfriend when she has to pose for Today: just her and the son. No pressure on the family… pressure on her??? Depends right?🤣

I did family photos and the photographer drove who was in what shots based on pre-convo with my SIL. Ex, Whole family, just kids, grandma with kids, each immediate family, adult siblings, etc. Have photographer shoot one with everyone and then selective groupings. No need for any discussions.

NOT THE FIRST! No tests. GF will be confused and unsure what to do. I think Mom should tell her just the way you suggested but add something like ‘I’m keeping my fingers crossed you’ll be in ALL of them some day.’ Let her know it’s not that she isn’t wanted. Do NOT trust a young dude to handle this without throwing Mom under the bus.

She’s probably freaking out bc hopefully she has common sense I would think it would be weird to be in family photos this early in relationship. So you can also say, “you may have heard that we’re gonna have family photos. Don’t worry we’re not gonna ask you to be in the big ones, but we would love it if you were in a couple just to commemorate vacation, would you be OK joining in for a few?”

I wouldn’t say anything. I would let the photographer guide the photo session. If she has any sense, she will know it’s not about her. She is a guest, not a member of the family.

Talk with your son about it before the vacation and ask him to tell her. Let them know your plan is to take a number of pictures and include her in some and not all. That way if she ends up in the family, she’s there. If they don’t marry, you’ll have pictures without her.

I was the girlfriend over 30 years ago at my husband’s family wedding. I never thought once to be in any of the pictures. Funny thing is that I’m the only DIL left. The rest divorced 😂

At my cousin’s wedding my other cousin insisted that her boyfriend at the time should be in the formal family pic. So my aunt had the photographer place the boyfriend at the very end and had the bf photoshopped out. But yes the gf should recognize that she should sit some of those photos out.

Tell her what you said about how you want to do professional family pics and vacation pics. And you want her to be included in the vacation pics so you wanted her to know so she can pack an outfit for the vacation pics. Also Tell the photographer what you want do he/she will know and be the one to say who will be in the pic and where they are positioned.

Just tell her beforehand to bring something to wear for pics. Say, “we are doing some vacation pics where we want everyone to be in, and some for just the family. We are so excited you’ll get to share vacation with us.” Easy peasy…don’t test her. I think that’s a little underhanded.
