@dera_story1: My name is Wahid. I am 55. I live in Birmingham. My daughter Rukhaya started seeing someone I did not approve of when she was 17. I told her to choose, him or this house. She chose him and left that same week. She left the key on the kitchen counter. I never picked it up. It sat there for years, gathering dust, a small brass thing I walked past every single day. She called twice in the first year. I did not pick up either time, certain that answering would look like giving in. By the second year she stopped calling altogether. I told relatives she'd made her own choices and would have to live with them. I checked her social media sometimes, late at night, never liking anything, never commenting, just watching a life I'd told myself I no longer had any part in. When she was 22, her mother, my ex-wife, arranged a meeting between us, a cafe halfway between our two lives. Rukhaya came. We sat mostly in silence, both too proud and too hurt to say the actual things underneath the small talk about weather and traffic. At the end she said, "I still have the key. I don't know why I kept it." I said, "I never asked for it back." Neither of us said anything else that mattered. Two years later, her mother called me on a Sunday morning. Rukhaya had been in a car accident the night before, on her way home from a friend's, and had not survived it. In her handbag, the paramedics found a key, small, brass, worn smooth from years of being carried around without a lock left to open. At the funeral I stood next to her mother and could not stop thinking about the cafe, the silence, the small talk that had used up an entire meeting neither of us knew was the only one we'd ever get. Weeks later, going through a box of her things her mother gave me, I found a book with a receipt inside dated the week after our cafe meeting. She had bought it herself, not long after seeing me, before either of us knew there wouldn't be a second chance to try again properly. I sat with the book that night and it fell open near a page with a heading at the top: Reminder 84. "You don't know how much time you have. And you don't know how much time they have." I read it again. Then a third time out loud, in an empty room, because I had spent seven years assuming there would eventually be a better moment than the cafe, and there had only ever been that one. I kept reading. The next part explained something I had never let myself understand. That I had spent seven years waiting for a moment that felt right enough to finally say I was sorry properly, certain the window would still be open whenever I finally decided I was ready. It had closed two years before I even realized I'd let it, at a cafe table, over small talk, while the actual apology sat unsaid between us the entire time. I keep her key on my own set now, on the same ring as my house key, the two of them touching every time I lock my front door. I say the apology out loud every time I do it, the one I owed her at that cafe table and let the silence swallow instead. I did not know a receipt inside a book, bought the week after our only real chance to talk, would be the thing that finally showed me she had been just as ready as I was, and neither of us had said so in time. If there is someone you are still waiting for the right moment to apologize to, this reminder is for you too. May Allah grant Rukhaya Jannah, and grant every parent still waiting the courage to say it now, at whatever table they're given, before there isn't one left #fyp #couplegoals #creatorsearchinsights

You should have thrown away your ego especially with your child. A loving parent must always Forgive their child's mistakes with or without getting any apology from them. THAT IS PURE MOTHERLY & FATHERLY LOVE😌😌

The love of a child is great don’t lose it over your pride. There nothing my children can do to make me stop loving them. I may be disappointed but my love will be them forever.

U gave up on her because she probably made a ‘wrong’ choice. The first time I hold my daughter in my arms just 2.4kg… I promised her Daddy will be with her all the way through right or wrong, good and bad times even when she love others more than me one day! Thats my promise and I will keep it!

Im sorry for your loss brother but sometimes we as parents are far too harsh look at the society we live in, she too must have gone through pain maybe she fell in love and she knew he was mr Right but we need to meet our kids half way and definitely forgive as our Islam teaches us, as long as we teach our kids the 5 pillars of Islam then we have done our duties but as parents we should never give up, we continue to support our kids these days there are far too many mental health issues with kids we need to be there for them and guide them but unfortunately us Pakistani we cut our kids off, No it’s wrong Allah make it easy for you brother and give ruqaya jannah Ameen

as muslims we are not allowed to severe ties. What if she denounced her faith because of your actions, what would your answer to Allah swt be?
