I have 20 gallons of water, a generator, 10 gallons of gas plus whatever is in the car. I have 150 ish pounds of rice, 40 to 50 pounds of dried beans. and yes, it is because I am fortunate enough to be able to buy all of that. it is honestly terrifying.

As climate change accelerates more power outages are going to occur. There is no incentive to invest in the grid and other utility infrastructure because that decreases profits. Texas is failing because their entire grid is privatized.

I've been light prepping for the past few years & one of the most overlooked things is COMMUNITY! Make plans for where you'll go / how you'll keep your food from spoiling if power is out. What skills and resources can you offer to others vs what can a friend or relative help you with? This goes a long way. But, never hurts to stock up on canned beans.

Download survivalist guides and develop disaster preparedness plans with your families. If your home is compromised or if stuff pops off while you guys are separated, where are you meeting up? Who is capable of stocking which items? Stock shelf-stable food. Etc.

Hey sweetie prepper here (since 2020) I'm on a fixed income (SSI) + I don't get much. And after the bills it's pitiful. And if I can prep anyone can. And prepping is another form of insurance. Just like you buy renters insurance. Also you buy insurance for these things car/house/medical and life. We prepare for job loss/loss of a spouse/loss of primary bread winner/illness/supply chain disruptions/ shortages food+gas/ pandemics/ grid failure/ natural disasters/ cyber attacks/ financial collapse/water shortages/contamination,war etc. People that prep are not privileged🙄 Tbh most of us don't have a lot of money. Many of us prepare because we've grown up with food insecurity/poverty or experienced a shtf situation in our lives. Dollar Tree has a multitude of prepping items. I go to Kroger on markdown day (in Ohio Wed). I just picked up hamburger for under $3 a pound. It was sold in the 3lb pack for $8.10 regularly it's $17.99. Kroger also has an aisle with a specific area for carts with discounted items. Also there are discount outlet stores (for food) And food pantries. You can also buy (online) food that's close to expiring for really cheap. You have to be intentional + frugal. And stick with pantry staples (ingredients to cook from scratch) flour, sugar,yeast, cornmeal, cocoa, powdered milk,oats,pasta,salt, seasonings,minute rice,instant potatoes, instant coffee,tea bags. Bulk beans, white rice,lentils,split peas+any dry goods that you can make meals out of. Also get canned meats, soups,vegetables, fruits, Pantry staples (ingredients) are so much cheaper than buying convience food.You can fruits, vegetables+eggs in the oven. If you're a prepper that doesn't mean that you're privileged in any way 🙄 It means that we've sacrificed+went without things we wanted+needed to get some extras ahead. And PLEASE get water. Water is life! You can store tap water in any empty container. Dollar Tree sells seeds, micro greens+soil. Please stop being discouraged+making excuses for not preparing at all!!! Because I promise you that a collapse/shtf scenario is coming. And coming faster than any of us can imagine. Please just start! Get a few extra items each store trip

I'd advise everyone to see if they have a LDS Home Storage Center near you. And, as Seneca wrote - Set aside a certain number of days, during which you shall be content with the scantiest and cheapest fare, with course and rough dress, saying to yourself the while: 'Is this the condition that I feared?'

Prepping can be expensive and a lot of work. Those of us who can afford to, should do as much extra as we are able. Plan enough for your household first, but then if you can, plan for helping your community
