They’re semi-domesticated. There is always a risk. If you train them as kittens, they’re basically big cats, but be careful.

cheetahs are typically really docile towards humans. there’s a video of a photographer trying to capture pictures of one & she ends up coming up to him & purring & just rolling around all over him

I read somewhere the biggest reason we can’t domesticate them is because of an inability to breed them. A female cheetahs body will not ovulate unless she has run so much that she wears her body out.

Cheetahs are very prone to domestication. They don't see humans as competition for food, nor do they see us as prey. We're just other animals on their level to them, and since we're not as fast as them, not as strong as them, we're not a threat. And we'll give them pets and cuddles.

They’re also extremely difficult to breed in captivity iirc. Which is probably why they were never domesticated as fecundity is one of the requirements to be able to successfully domesticate a species.

See this is why I hate it when people say cats should be indoors. I keep my cats inside because I live in the city and in front of my house is a busy road. So for their safety they are indoorcats with a catproof balcony/catio. But if I had the space they would be outside to roam around because that is their nature. I hope no one will ever get a cheetah just as a pet. They need to be free outside in the wild. All cats should be outside imo.

the reason cheetahs can't be domesticated/kept is because they cannot reproduce in captivity. this is because part of their mating ritual includes a female cheetah running at high speeds with the male running after her until she gets tired

I hear the biggest issue is how they mate. The female needs to be run to exhaustion just to get her engines running, so she can pick out the fastest male that can keep up. Not something easily done in captivity.
