Idaho is a large state in the northwest region of the United States. It shares borders with Canada to the north, Washington and Oregon to the west, Nevada and Utah to the south, and Montana and Wyoming to the east. The capital and largest city is Boise. The state is famous for its massive mountains, deep canyons, and rushing rivers. People often call it the Gem State because nearly every known type of gemstone has been found within its borders.The landscape of Idaho varies a lot from north to south. Technology, science, and manufacturing play big roles alongside traditional farming and wood products. Tourism is also very important. Visitors come all year to ski on snowy peaks, hike through deep forests, fish in clear streams, and ride boats down wild rapids.
