30 year CPA here. Started at EY, then was a sector CFO, CAO and COO at Fortune 500 companies. Retired from the public company and started my own consulting firm doing turnarounds and selling companies to PE firms. It’s a great base. Good luck!

accounting is more akin to law than numbers. finance allows for more quantitative paths that can pay more such as data management though
