@fit.mom.carlyn: Things that will keep your child from being successful that you need to be teaching them. #Christiantiktok #successful #kids #parents #confidence
My mom always taught us you never get a second chance to make a first impression always dress your best regardless because you’ll be judged by that first time

Just another thing that I’ve recently noticed. Kids and many adults do not know how to make and keep plans. I ask adults “when can you do xyz” and they have no clue what they are doing tomorrow let alone next week and then end up cancelling or changing plans because they are double booked. My child’s school doesn’t provide agenda’s anymore so I got him one! We are sitting down and planning out when we do our homework for the week, when we are going to grandma’s, what day we are going to the trampoline park, etc,. Planning is a learned skill and is needed to manage time and relationships! Teach your children to plan!

I wore gothic clothing (kinda still do) all my life and I am very thankful my parents let me be myself HOWEVER there is a time and place. I went to an interview with massive gothic boots and a corset for a phlebotomy position and didn’t get it and I saw the interview lady look me up and down 😬. Now this was many many years ago but my parents should have taught me there was a time and place.

Head up and shoulders back can literally save their lives too. A predator is less likely to bother them if they look confident

And how to act in restaurants!!! Teenagers need to know how to keep an appropriate voice level, make eye contact with the wait staff and speak clearly when ordering, know how to share appetizers and make sure you’re leaving enough for everyone and not gobbling up all the apps before everyone else gets an opportunity, put the napkin on your lap, etc

These are important lessons, AND at the same time I hope we are all teaching our children to keep an open mind about others! Our presentation is not always a choice. It’s human nature to judge based on appearances, but I think it’s one of the things we are here to learn to overcome. I’m partially disabled. It looks like I have very poor posture, but it’s actually a spinal deformity. I work very hard in the gym and PT to be as upright as I am. 😂 I know from watching your videos what a kind, nonjudgmental heart you have. But I have seen that sometimes when I teach my children they miss the nuance between the world as it is, and the world as we (& in my opinion, God) would like it to be.

Yess. I made my husband change out of sweats and slides for meet the teacher into more appropriate clothes. It might be something so “small” but it’s important to dress to impress even if it’s kindergarten meet the teacher. Lol

I think some parents think their kids are perfect the way they are and don’t want to correct these things. And they aren’t prioritizing raising future adults but forever their “baby”

I thank God all the time my Caribbean parents were so posh😅 it’s let me into room I’d never dreamed and they couldn’t stop singing my praises because of what should be basic manners but just one step further. There’s a hidden language being spoken and when you come off unintentionally crass?? That’s it’s for you.

Ive had people show up to job interviews with tons of facial piercings and pajamas and fuzzy house shoes. The job was a for law enforcement. The person was floored when I would not interview them.

I don’t have very many rules, but my kids MUST follow my dress rules. 1. Seasonally appropriate. 2. Appropriate for the occasion. And 3. Compliment your date/group, etc when attending a function.
