Skillet frontman John Cooper is pushing back on Christians who call hard rock "demonic," arguing that music itself doesn't belong to the devil and that no particular sound carries "inherent evil." Cooper knows the criticism personally. He says his own mother believed loud guitars, drums and even Christian rock were "Satanic," and protesters still show up outside Skillet concerts accusing the band of serving the devil. His response comes as Skillet's reach hits a massive milestone: the band's 2009 hit "Monster" has become the first song by a Christian rock band to reach 1 billion streams on Spotify.
