Oh I would love to answer this, the reason why Arabic (or other languages that writes right to left) is because in Mesopotamian age/wra, since most people were right handed and they used a spike and hammer to carve text in stones, it was easier to wield the hammer on the right hand and was easier to write from right to left. As for Mandarin (or other languages that writes from top to bottom) is because papers were narrow and has to be written from top to bottom
