For death saves my DM gives you the opportunity to get advantage to get advantage. You have to to have a flashback or your life flashes before your eyes and you have to tell a story from your characters past that is deep and meaningful and gives you the will to push through and continue living.

Reminds me of a DM I played for, where he and another player homebrewed lore for Pixies and ended up spending like ten minutes just sitting on on them coming up with stuff on the fly. It was fun because she was just learning how to play and her excitement was infectious.
