He finished ~26 yards short of being the NFL rushing leader behind James Cook last year, who had 6 fumbles to Henry’s 4 and few people had him in their top-5 review. I’m sure he’ll clean it up but the fumble reputation is so overblown. The all-time Top 5 rushers Smith, Payton, Gore, Sanders and Peterson had career total fumbles 38, 31, 42, 19, and 42 respectively. Henry has 21. Sanders is the wild outlier here but among the greats (who also played 15, 13, 16, 10, and 19 seasons respectively) Henry is sitting at 71-87% of their total yards and 50-67% of their fumbles (again taking Sanders out as an outlier who many will argue will still be the goat bc he accomplished so much in 10 years and 3k carries.) So Henry is not an excessive fumbler, not even a average fumbler compared to 4 of the 5 top all-time, in fact has a below-average fumble rate relative to his total yards and carries. Tell me who else would be in better physical shape than Henry after ten seasons to realistically keep going 5+ more at a high level. I predict he’ll probably break Smith’s all time yards, and easily Payton’s.
