@itsrachaelnelson: Edit to add: I said it at the end of the video but after the fact we found out my midwife had cut his cord but when EMS arrived it was not clamped, so he was covered in his own blood. PART 2: Sorry this one is a little all over the place, it’s a hard story for me to tell! If you have any questions please let me know, I will try and answer them to the best of my ability!
I’m an OB. All deliveries are fine until they aren’t. I respect peoples decisions but I would never recommend a home birth. Too much can go wrong. I know I’m biased because we always get the retained placentas or obstructed labors with the lay midwife in the wind.

This took so much courage to share. I saw your last video and the comments were uncalled for. As a labor and delivery nurse I am glad you shared your story and I am so sorry this happened to you. No one deserves this to happen to them.

Rachel, we have the exact same story even regarding the EMS timeline to manual extraction, hemorrhage and delayed D&C! Absolutely CRAZY!!!!!!! Midwives are NOT safe!

Holy crap. You were hemorrhaging and your midwife did not care. Wow. your blood pressure was so low to begin with that would have been the first red flag. I’m so glad you were ok. And baby of course.

Was the midwife ever held accountable for her negligence?

As a NICU nurse, thank you for sharing. I’m not anti home birth in any way for others, but people deserve the full truth about the risks including incompetent providers (even ones who seem amazing) and the internet seems to be all about the perfect home births and rarely do we see someone share a negative outcome. I just want people well rounded with information on all birthing options and choices so they can make the best informed decisions possible for themselves, their baby, and their family.

please tell me you reported the midwife and stopped her from hurting future mothers and babies. She 100% delayed care and put you both in danger

did your mom argue with you about having a home birth or anything? did anybody in your personalize push back on it at all before it happened

I just want to say, I too am part of the birthing community here. I am stunned at this whole story. I am so glad your story has been shared. So many of my patients use social media as their education, however most of their info are from uneducated sources. We need more factual stories. I am grateful YOU and your baby are ok! 🥰

He had an anoxic brain injury … yet you say he did not need to be intubated. If he were in the hospital and they had any trouble masking him, another provider would have tried but no time would have been wasted in securing an airway.

I am so sorry you went through all this. I am so happy to hear your son is ok today. Had you had a qualified midwife, none of this would have happened. You are a good Mama. Thank you for sharing your story. Hopefully this will help other families when choosing a midwife and a birth plan.
