these aren't always a result of good parenting. I spent my whole life being quiet and making sure I wouldn't anger my father. walking on eggshells 24/7. now I argue. I don't argue because I feel heard or that my voice matters. I argue because I no longer care if he kills me in a fit of toddler-like rage. I argue because I'm tired of gentle parenting him.

Your kids don’t pick up after themselves because they feel safe. They can afford to be forgetful, lazy, or distracted because their brain knows they are secure at home. Because in our home we validate and accept normal adolescent development without punishment for going through their development!
