@growwithkaela: Do DAs recognize their patterns? Often times yes, they do with age. Can they heal? Also yes, but it’s rare for them to take that step. Here’s why…

I do not think that you people understand. We are aware but we cannot change it. I spend 3 years healing and going to therapy only to end up the same as I was but only with more awareness.

With Therapy can they not recognize and make changes?

This is good to hear. One of the hardest thing about recovering from the trauma of a severe dismissive avoidant person is the lack of any information THEY share about why they are doing what they’re doing. They provide no explanation just silence and gaslighting. Everything I know about what happened to me has been told to me by either a therapist or this kind of content. Now it all makes sense, but it took a long time piece it altogether. And it leaves you with the urge to explain to them what they are doing. The Fantasy that you can tell them all about their attachment style, and it will somehow lead to an epiphany was one of the last things I had to let go to complete my healing journey. But even now Occasionally I imagine breaking ‘no contact’ just to send them words to help them have an epiphany about the damage they’ve gone and for their own healing. Of course it’s pointless. They have to make this realization themselves.

Too bad his therapist is keeping him stuck by telling him he’s secure

I told my ex flat out that if she keeps having the exact same problem in every relationship, then maybe she needs to look at the common factor in all of them.

So what is the difference between a DA and a narcissist with avoidant traits?

If they can verbalize their patterns to you, is there really an excuse for their behavior?

at last someone that doesn't sugarcoat it and tell it like it is. you can see a lot of other videos that tell you how to behave to get what you want from an avoidant or how they can heal but nothing you'll do will be enough unless they get therapy (and even then it might take years before real change)

He really tried but I only noticed after the fact, once I learned more about myself and themselves. I put my foot down and expected more when he was doing his best. its sad. for both of us.

Where are the female former DAs telling their true stories of the brick walls they ran into that forced them to take accountability and un-corrupt themselves??😳

They understand the pattern theoretically but they use that as a way to further avoid - focus on intellectualising it instead of actual vulnerability so they can tell themselves they’re “trying”
