Honestly, I blame the youths of the state to a large extent. The mentality is becoming increasingly disappointing. For many, politics has become nothing more than chasing politicians for peanuts and Ayade-kind of appointments. They defend and argue about politicians as if their lives depend on them, sometimes even fighting and killing one another over leaders who have done little to genuinely empower the youths or drive meaningful development. Go to Abia State today and compare it with Cross River State. Cross River has enormous potential, yet the level of development across many of its local government areas leaves much to be desired. A state that Donald Duke worked hard to transform, but beyond that legacy, where is the sustainable development? How many local government areas can we visit today and confidently say that there has been significant progress? Our youths need to wake up. Politics should not be about fighting for crumbs or defending politicians blindly. We should be demanding accountability, quality leadership, empowerment, infrastructure, jobs, and opportunities that will create a better future for everyone. Until the youths change their mindset and begin to hold leaders accountable rather than worship them, meaningful development will remain a distant dream… I done talk my own the state deserves better.
